The benefits package is non-existent.
The service sector has challenging areas of employment. Prostitution is part of the deep underground customer service sector. Many people have the idea that prostitution is a glamorous and exciting profession. It is not.
The idea that prostitution is easy money is prevalent among some types of women. Making money by selling yourself is one of the hardest ways to make money in the world.
Women work a long demanding day to meet their obligations to their boss (AKA pimp). There are no days off. There are no vacations; every Friday is a Black Friday sale. Holidays are big money-making days. There are no benefits, no health care. There are no paid vacations. No pension. No 401K.
The television and film versions of prostitution are incorrect. There are two stereotypes. Either the pampered, glamorous, beautiful high dollar prostitute inhabiting a luxury apartment supplied by a rich benefactor or the drug-addicted street whore scrambling to survive until the next fix. Neither is true.
Ladies of the Night have the same idea of work you and I have. The reality of the job is much more mundane. Having sex for a living is a difficult, thankless occupation. Prostitutes are outstanding actresses. Can you imagine pretending to have an orgasm four or five times a day? Hell, pretending to ooh and ahh for someone one time a day would be too much for most women.
Going into secluded dark places or unknown hotel rooms is nerve-racking. Being alone with strange men intending to take off your clothes and allowing them to use you as a sex object causes stress and high blood pressure. Knowing if you don’t make your quota, there are consequences is another reason that prostitutes are one of the highest percentages of migraine headache suffers in the world.
Taking care of their private parts is a key activity. If their money-maker is out of whack, the women have no market value. They cannot make money. Since they are most likely using the free public clinic, we can assume the care is adequate but not the most conscientious.
The women must stay out of jail. In all but one of the fifty states, prostitution is illegal. Determining if the man (or women) you are propositioning is law enforcement becomes a highly developed skill. It always comes down to an educated guess. If the prostitute avoids the police, there is still a potential risk in the encounter with the john. Serial killers have a “thing” for prostitutes.
Prostitution is a humbling job that is a daily grind.
Add that the protectors of the women are toxic bosses. The occupation drains the practitioner’s dreams, ambition, and self-respect.
Prostitution is a young woman’s game. The amount of persistence, determination, and drive it takes to work in prostitution year after year is remarkable.
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
-Calvin Coolidge
Prostitution is one of the most atrocious professions a person can have. The path of a whore is a downward spiral:
High paid escort $1000+ >
Expensive prostitute $500+ >
Mid-level prostitute $250+ >
Streetwalker/hotel room $100+ >
Streetwalker /car $50+>
Alley streetwalker $25+ >
Back of Van $7+
The ability of a prostitute to earn a living decreases dramatically with age. If the women don’t get out, they eventually become a cheap, down-scale, old piece of ass.
Not a good end for anyone.
I suspect that some women are happy in this profession, but the prostitutes I have met wished they had never started down the sex-for-money path. Women that were forced or lured into this occupation get out as fast as they can.
Being a whore is one of the worst jobs in America. Stay out.
